ADVOCACY
Championing Fair Policies and Practices
At The South Florida AGC, we are dedicated to advocating for fair policies and practices that benefit our members and the broader commercial construction industry. In 2024, we successfully prevented cities and counties from enacting their own Heat Ordinances, ensuring that heat safety regulations remain unified under OSHA. This victory means our members can operate under one consistent standard, avoiding the confusion and complexity of navigating multiple local requirements.
Our commitment to protecting your interests is unwavering, and we continue to fight against policies that could negatively impact your business operations.
Defending Contractors' Rights
We take pride in standing up for contractors' rights, particularly in challenging environments. Our involvement in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Construction Task Force is a testament to this commitment. By advocating for fair treatment of contractors, we have influenced recommendations that improve payment processes and expedite change order approvals. These efforts are crucial in fostering a more equitable environment for all stakeholders involved in the construction process. We believe that every contractor deserves timely payments and fair treatment, and we work tirelessly to ensure these standards are upheld.
Expanding Our Reach and Impact
Our advocacy efforts are not limited to policy battles; we also focus on expanding our reach and impact through community engagement and education. In 2024, we celebrated an all-time high in event attendance, connecting more members of our industry than ever before. Our events in Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville were more than just gatherings—they were opportunities to build community, share knowledge, and foster collaboration. The expansion of our Young Constructors Forum and CEO Cocktails has been particularly successful in nurturing the next generation of talent and reinforcing the strength of our network.
Keeping Members Informed
We understand that knowledge is power, and we are dedicated to keeping our members informed about critical issues affecting the industry. Through webinars and in-person sessions, we address topics such as the potential impact of port strikes on materials pricing and delivery timelines, and the implications of third-party inspections. By providing timely and relevant information, we empower our members to make informed decisions and stay ahead of industry challenges. Our goal is to ensure that you have the knowledge and resources needed to thrive in a competitive market.
Looking Ahead
As we look to the future, our advocacy efforts will continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of our members and the industry. We are excited to announce the formation of a new Political Action Committee (PAC) that will enhance our ability to educate members, the public, and legislators about the importance of the construction industry. This initiative will strengthen our advocacy efforts and ensure that your voice is heard at all levels of government. Together, we can continue to make a difference and build a stronger, more resilient industry.
